What if it’s Not True

What if it’s not true?

All my assumptions about the sun

and tallow rendered for glue

What if it’s delusion

pride of place, status, borne on the backs of servants

All of it a lie

The images of symmetrical beauty

a trick of the light

What if it isn’t true?

Our flesh, I mean

What if our bodies

are just prisons, laughable animations

containing the spirits of stars

What if

what we are is a galaxy

fallen broken into particles

and our whole purpose is to

reunite as one

and rotate around a warm sun

until we explode

into our next existence

taking the fine granular memories

of lovers and friends and enemies

in our bones

as we are born into the new dance

of avoiding death

that is a lie

an impossibility

amongst metamorphic spirits
